Why is an MP4 usually smaller than a GIF?
A GIF stores every frame as a separate picture with at most 256 colours. An MP4 stores only what changes between frames and uses modern video compression. For GIFs made from video clips it is often several times smaller; a GIF of simple flat graphics can already be tiny.
What happens to a transparent background?
MP4 has no transparency, so transparent areas become a solid colour, usually the colour the GIF stores for its transparent pixels.
Will the animation still loop?
An MP4 plays once by default. Choose how many times to repeat it here, or let the app you share it in loop it: most chat apps and social networks do this automatically.
