Frequently asked questions
Which quality should I pick?
Medium is a good default: files are much smaller and the difference is hard to see. Use Light for images you will print or edit further, and Strong when the smallest file matters more than fine detail.
Why does a PNG shrink less than a JPG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so it can only be shrunk by reducing the number of colours (the Strong level uses 64). For photos, switching the output to JPG or WebP usually saves far more.
What happens to transparency and to my photo's location data?
PNG and WebP keep transparency; in JPG, transparent areas turn white. Location and camera details (EXIF) are always removed from the compressed copy.
