Video Upload Limits in 2026: Discord, WhatsApp and Email

A file-size limit is a budget, not a recommended quality setting. Check how you are sending the video, leave some room below the limit, and preview the result. The references below were checked on 9 September 2026.

These are starting targets, not delivery guarantees. Inspect the downloaded file size and the limit shown by the receiving app. Browser compression on these pages accepts files up to 2 GB; memory, storage and video complexity can impose smaller practical limits.

Why a longer video looks worse at the same size

A two-minute video has four times as many seconds as a 30-second clip. At the same 10 MB target, it gets roughly one-quarter of the total data per second, with audio taking part of that budget. A target that looks clear for a short clip can make a long one blurry.

Keep the part that matters. Trim unwanted footage before compression. This leaves more data for each useful second.
Match resolution to the content. Try 720p for phone clips. For small text in a screen recording, try Original resolution and a larger target first.
Preview motion and text. Check faces, movement and captions before sharing. Stronger compression can remove detail.
Switch the sending method when needed. A document or a sharing link may preserve a long video better than forcing it into a tiny attachment.

Frequently asked questions

Is Discord still limited to 10 MB?

Discord's August 2026 file-attachment help documents 20 MB for free users. The 19 MB preset leaves extra room. Use the limit displayed in your account if it differs.

Is WhatsApp's video limit 16 MB?

That is not the current general chat-video limit in WhatsApp's help. It lists 64 MB or 100 MB depending on connection speed, and up to 2 GB for documents. Status videos have a separate 90-second duration limit.

Can compression stop WhatsApp from changing my video?

No. Compressing first controls the file you prepare, but WhatsApp may process media again. Consider sending a document when preserving the file is more important than inline playback.

Why did an attachment below the advertised limit still fail?

The limit may apply to the whole message, or your account may have a different allowance. Leave room for attachment encoding and other files. If the size fits, check the app's format requirements and connection before compressing again.
