Turn a large AVI into a shareable MP4
AVI describes the container. Uncompressed camera captures can shrink substantially, while an AVI that already contains compressed video may offer less room for savings. The original file remains unchanged.
Start at Original resolution for archive footage. Older recordings may be interlaced or use unusual audio; look for comb-like edges during motion and listen for sync problems. A smaller file alone does not confirm a good conversion.
The large-browser beta accepts MP4 and MOV, not AVI. For an AVI above 2 GB, choose cloud processing up to 10 GB or a desktop encoder. Uploading to the cloud is a separate action.

What is the maximum video file size for compression?
Browser Compression accepts video files up to 2 GB. Processing uses FFmpeg in your browser. Available memory and local disk space can impose smaller practical limits; memory-only browsers support outputs up to 512 MiB.
How much can video compression reduce my file size?
Savings depend on the source video, duration, resolution and bitrate. Already compressed files may barely shrink. Preview the result and keep your original if too much detail is lost.
Does this compressor require upload of my video file?
Video bytes stay on your device in this browser tool. SqueezeVid receives usage metadata to manage allowances and failures. Optional cloud processing is a separate route that requires an upload.
What video formats does this video compressor support?
