Reduce Video Quality and Resolution
Sometimes you want a video to be smaller rather than sharper: to send it over a slow connection, keep a lightweight copy, share a draft or save storage. SqueezeVid lowers the resolution and quality of your video in your browser. This page starts at 480p with a stronger compression setting, and you can pick another resolution before you start. Nothing is uploaded and no watermark is added.
Size limit: Resolution sets how many pixels each frame has, for example 1080p, 720p or 480p. The quality slider sets how strongly each frame is compressed. Lowering either makes the file smaller; lowering both makes it much smaller. SqueezeVid never upscales, so resolutions above your video's own are not offered.

How do I lower the quality of a video?
Drop your video on this page. It preselects 480p and a stronger compression setting. Open the settings to choose another resolution, such as 720p, 360p or 240p, or move the quality slider, then start.
What is the difference between video resolution and video quality?
Resolution is the frame size in pixels. Quality is how much detail the encoder keeps in each frame. A 720p video can look sharp or blocky depending on its compression. Lowering the resolution is usually the most effective way to shrink a file while keeping it watchable.
Does SqueezeVid upload my video to compress it?
Video bytes stay on your device in this browser tool. SqueezeVid receives usage metadata to manage allowances and failures. Optional cloud processing is a separate route that requires an upload.
How low can I go?
Down to 240p. At that size a video is still recognisable on a phone but clearly soft. For the smallest file, combine 240p with the lowest quality setting on the slider.
Can I make a video look low quality on purpose?
Yes. Choose 240p and move the quality slider to its lowest setting for a deliberately blocky, low-quality look. The result is a normal MP4 you can share anywhere.
