Compress MOV videos online for free
Compress a MOV recording up to 2 GB locally and download an H.264 MP4. MOV is common on iPhone and Mac; the codec inside the file determines whether your browser can decode it.

Compress MOV recordings from iPhone or Mac
A MOV may contain H.264, H.265 or another codec. Converting to MP4 can improve compatibility, but compression still changes the encoded video. Keep the original recording if you plan to edit it later.
For 4K footage, try 1080p when the destination does not need the original dimensions. For screen recordings, inspect small text before reducing resolution. Check that portrait footage still displays in the right orientation.
Eligible larger MP4/MOV files can use the separate 10 GB browser beta at Original resolution. HDR, unsupported audio and missing browser codecs can prevent that route from working. Cloud processing is available when uploading is acceptable.
Choose where to compress
Use the route that fits your file and device. Limits apply to the input file; available memory, storage and codec support can impose smaller practical limits.
- Browser Compression
- Up to 2 GB. Adjust resolution or target size; video bytes stay on your device.
- Large Browser Compression · Beta
- Eligible MP4/MOV up to 10 GB, at Original resolution. No video upload; requires supported codecs and temporary disk space.
- Server Compression
- Upload up to 10 GB and let our servers process it. After upload and job submission, you can close the tab and receive the result by email.

Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum video file size for compression?
Browser Compression accepts video files up to 2 GB. Processing uses FFmpeg in your browser. Available memory and local disk space can impose smaller practical limits; memory-only browsers support outputs up to 512 MiB.
How much can video compression reduce my file size?
Savings depend on the source video, duration, resolution and bitrate. Already compressed files may barely shrink. Preview the result and keep your original if too much detail is lost.
Does this compressor require upload of my video file?
Video bytes stay on your device in this browser tool. SqueezeVid receives usage metadata to manage allowances and failures. Optional cloud processing is a separate route that requires an upload.
What video formats does this video compressor support?
The standard tool accepts MP4, MOV and AVI. Sharing pages also accept WebM and MKV. Successful compression creates an H.264 MP4; support depends on the codec inside the source file.
